We officially went to a Greek island today! Now what most might picture is the view of white houses and blue roofs like in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.. but that was filmed on the island Santorini. In order to get there It would be a 10 hour or more ferry ride.. no thank you.. so we traveled to Hydra, an equally beautiful place to be cream building burnt orange roofs, it resembled croatia a lot for me which makes since because i thought croatia looked like how i pictured greece to look. well it was much better island choice seeing that it was about a one and a half hour ferry ride over. The ferry was interesting it was like a super big plane the inside.. for some reason not what I had been expecting
We got to Hydra at about noon, by the way its pronounced E-dra not hi-dra.. just so you know.. anyways upon arrival we checked out many of the local shops and spent our time doing so for about two hours.. in there we made a small stop for lunch too.. im really like the food here for a reason other than taste.. price! I got a pork pita that had lettuce, tomato, onion, and some special sauce (the the cucumber one at the one Maple Fest stand!) well it was big and delicious and only cost me 2.50 euro!!! Crazy good!!
We picked the right island for sure to go to! We saw lots of SAS faculty throughout the day always a reassuring sign! We saw the dean of students and her husband and 2 daughters, my moms, and one of the counselors and her husband!!
So after we shopped ourselves out a bit we decided it was time to find a place to jump in the water and lay out for a bit. Well this is about the time we ran into the counselor and her husband (whom we ate lunch with like two days ago) well they suggested a little place we could go to just around the corner so we took their suggestion and went with it. so what it was just a little flat concrete area that had a stairway into the water and a jumping cliff just to the right of it.. well this worked for us so we got in the water for a little bit then sat out to read in a half shaded part after a chapter of reading we hopped in again and then read some more it was a nice way to spend the afternoon very relaxing and peaceful and I finally am getting to read the book Kristi gave to me to read back at school!
After a couple hours of sitting out we decided to pack up and actually go buy all the stuff we had looked at buying earlier which worked out well we got some really good things and some good gifts. I got a really pretty necklace today from some guy that had a stand on the street set up im very exciting about it!
So after the shopping round two we found another little pita place to eat at got another cheap pita (this time chicken) and a glass of wine and enjoyed our little meal mine only costing like 3.80 euro in the end! How cool is that! Then we sat and were just talking for awhile and then moved on to a place for Kristi to get dessert from then it was time to catch the ferry back to Piraeus our port city.
